The Brisbane Lions’ second community BBQ will go ahead as planned this Thursday 20 January at Giffin Park, Coorparoo and promises to be even bigger and better than the one held back in December last year.

This special event will correspond with the Lions’ public training session from 4pm - 6:30pm and also assist the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal at the same time with gold coin donations.

The afternoon will feature plenty of fun activities and entertainment including an interactive area where kids will have the chance to show off their footy skills with AFLQ representatives, training commentary from Head of Welfare / Leadership and Culture Manny Lynch and, of course, the opportunity to mix and mingle with Brisbane’s own AFL team at the end of training.

The Lions players will be on hand immediately following the training session to sign autographs and chat with members and supporters.

There will also be food and drinks available (for a gold coin donation) from the sausage sizzle and Four ‘N Twenty pie van and heaps of great prizes up for grabs in the raffle.

All proceeds raised from the event will be donated back to the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal as part of the Club’s ongoing contribution - so be sure to bring plenty of gold coins!

Lions Captain Jonathan Brown is hoping a huge crowd of members and supporters turns out on Thursday to meet the team and support those people who were affected by the floods.

“An event like this helps bring us players closer to the fans - and they’re the ones who really are the lifeblood of our Club,” Brown said.

“Close to 1,000 people came to the Community BBQ last year and the boys loved it. It’s not every day you get to experience that sort of atmosphere at a training session. It’s particularly good for our younger blokes.”

“The event becomes even more important now that it is helping to raise much needed funds for the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal. We’ve all watched on as the recent floods devastated our city and have since been doing everything we can to lend a hand,” he said.

“So here’s hoping we get a good-sized crowd along to Giffin Park on Thursday to create a great atmosphere, meet the team and dig deep for a worthy cause.”
