Former Lion passes away
Former Fitzroy player Vic Chanter has passed away aged 89.
Vic debuted for the Lions in 1946 and took on the fullback role in 1947. In 1951 he became the first fullback to win the Club’s Best and Fairest award. Upon his retirement in 1952 he had played 108 games for Fitzroy.
Vic is remembered as the only fullback in VFL history to keep Essendon legend and Coleman Medal namesake John Coleman goalless.
Vic is survived by his wife Pat. His funeral will be held next week in Preston. For details of this please see the funeral notices in the newspaper.
The Brisbane Lions would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Vic’s family.
