The Brisbane Lions have selected Victorian running machine Harry Sharp with the Club’s second pick in the 2020 NAB AFL national Draft.

The 183cm midfielder was taken with pick 43 in tonight’s draft.

A national 2000m Under 18s steeplechase champion, Sharp broke the 2km time trial at the NAB AFL Draft Combine record in Melbourne by 20 seconds with a time of 5 minutes and 28 seconds.

At just 17-years-of-age and with another year of school ahead of him the Lions’ recruiting team believe the Rebels midfielder has enormous upside considering he only just this year made football his first-choice sport.

National recruiting Manager Stephen Conole said Sharp had caught the eye as a bottom age player for the Rebels in 2019 and given he had now settled his focus solely on football he was excited by the prospect of his ongoing improvement.

“He’s a smart hybrid midfielder whose ball use and long contest to contest game running we believe mixes in really well to our current squad,’’ he said.

“He’s still just 17 and with another year of school to complete, he obviously still has much development ahead. ‘’
