Brisbane Lions AFLW excitement-machine, Courtney Hodder, has suffered a nasty break to her finger during a training incident this week.

Hodder, who took out the AFLW Goal of the Year, is currently looking at missing six to eight weeks of the QAFLW season but will be fit for the start of the AFLW pre-season in November.

The 20-year-old underwent surgery on Friday after suffering the injury at training during the week.

"There is no doubt it’s disappointing for Courtney to sustain an injury and miss part of the QAFLW Season," Lions Head of Women's Football Breeanna Brock said.

"But we are confident she will be well and truly right to go for pre-season for AFLW which commences in November."

Hodder had an exceptional 2021 Season starring in the Lions first AFLW Premiership win and having several of her goals nominated for Goal of the Year before ultimately taking out the gong at the League’s W Awards.
