Dakota Davidson has urged Brisbane Lions supporters to come out in force at Maroochydore ahead of their Round 5 clash against Collingwood.

“We’d love to see another big crowd down there on Saturday,” Davidson said.

“It was great last week having the crowd behind us, it was such a huge atmosphere booster seeing all the Sunny Coast supporters and Brisbane supporters get up there.

“I actually heard someone came from Rockhampton! So it was just amazing to see all the fans out there enjoying watching us play footy again and get behind us.”

They’ll need the support of another parochial crowd behind them again this Saturday when they on AFLW rivals, Collingwood.

The two Clubs have put up plenty of even and exciting battles over the past six years, with the Lions just holding onto the upper hand with two wins from two meetings in 2021.

The last time the two sides met was in the thrilling 2021 Preliminary Final at the Gabba where the Lions held on to win by just three points.

“The Pies this weekend will be another great contest,”

“Collingwood’s a very good team and definitely a Premiership contender this season.

“They’ve always shown us how strong they are in the midfield, and then with Chloe Molloy up front and the likes of Sabrina [Frederick], they’re definitely a great team and we’ll have to bring our best on Saturday if we want to compete with them.”

Off the back of their 2021 success, the Lions are on the verge of reaching a record-breaking 2,000 AFLW memberships.

It’s a feat that Davidson says really inspires the whole playing group.

“It’s really exciting to know that nearly 2,000 people have thrown their support behind us this season with an AFLW membership,”

“We’re cusp of cracking that 2,000 AFLW member mark, and it’s a really exciting moment for the Club and the whole team.

“We have the best fans in the competition and to see them throw their support behind us like this, and like they do on game day, really just inspires the whole playing group.”

The previous AFLW member record for the Club was 1,239, recorded in the 2021.
