A host of Brisbane Lions have the chance to join an exclusive club, with 12 current and past players named in the Snaffle 22Under22 Team of the Decade squad.
Since 2013 the AFL Players’ Association has grown the 22Under22 Team from a novelty into a badge of honour for the AFL and AFLW’s best young talent.
With the AFLPA this year marking its 50th Anniversary, it is launching the 22Under22 Team of the Decade to celebrate the milestone.
Players voted by fans each season over the past decade have earned a spot in the squad.
The group of 2023 Lions in contention to make the final team include Brandon Starcevich, Eric Hipwood, Harris Andrews, Hugh McCluggage, Keidean Coleman, Zac Bailey, Conor McKenna, Joe Daniher, Lachie Neale, Jack Gunston and Josh Dunkley.
With former Lion Alex Witherden also named from his time at the Club.
The Lions have had 13 players selected over the last decade, seeing it sit ninth overall.
Highlighting the talent of the star-studded 22Under22 teams over the last 10 years is the incredible combined honours won between them.
Brisbane’s very own Lachie Neale has also been one of just six players from this list to go on and claim the AFLPA’s MVP, with the star midfielder claiming the honour in 2020.
Since its inception in 2013 the player selected have received a total of 76 All-Australian Blazers, won 50 premierships, six Brownlow Medals and 3 Coleman Medals.
The final team will be announced on March9, 2023 via the AFL Players’ Association’s social media channels.
