Melbourne might not be as familiar with TIO Stadium as they are with their regular home ground at the MCG, but they will certainly have more experience playing in Darwin than the Brisbane Lions.

In fact, Saturday night will mark the first time the Lions have ever played for AFL premiership points in the Northern Territory.

But with limited experience from previous pre-season and NEAFL encounters, the Club knows what to expect in terms of the location’s humid weather conditions.

“Having played up there previously a long time ago, it’s certainly different conditions,” Shane Woewodin told LIONS TV as part of the Vero Coaches’ Wrap.

“It’s not all different from what we have here (in Brisbane), probably just the humidity will be a little bit higher.

“Certainly the footy won’t bounce around as much, it will be more a skidding type, so we have to be really sure of our hands and play basic fundamental wet-weather footy – that’s how it is.

“We have to be really clean by foot and make sure we put the pressure back on Melbourne.”

The Lions will be sporting a new look this Saturday with players expected to wear sweat bands during the match.

“We’ve got to wear our sweat-bands this week, I think they’ve been ordered to have one on each hand,” Woewodin said.
