Speaking exclusively with LIONS TV, first-year sensation Dayne Zorko gave a detailed insight into the demands of training at high altitude.
“It was a pretty tough session, probably the hardest one we’ve done so far,” Zorko said.
“We did start with the eight 50m, then rolled into six 300m sprints and finished off with a few light skills before we got into the really hard three 1km time trials, which we got a few really good results out of.”
“It’s very hard trying to find air when you’ve finished your running. During the run it’s fine - you’re breathing really well. But when you stop…it’s really hard to suck in the big air and you can feel it getting really dry down there.”
Zorko, who was included as part of the travelling party given the strong fitness base he’d developed over four pre-seasons with Broadbeach, said the experience would prove beneficial for the team.
“It’s so surreal to be here and doing this camp with such great guys. It’s very cold, but a great experience. I think we’ll get a lot of it.”

The reigning Rookie of the Year’s sentiments were echoed by some of his Lions teammates on Twitter.
“Hard day of training here in Arizona, will sleep well tonight. Patfull, Redden, Hanley and Moloney running super well,” Brent Staker tweeted.
New recruit Brent Moloney, meanwhile, was blown away by the form of new teammate Jack Redden who he suggested was a #greyhound.
