The Brisbane Lions VFL side have booted seven goals in the final term to take down Coburg in Round 19 Smithy’s VFL action.

A see-sawing affair saw several lead changes throughout the four quarters, but it was Brisbane’s final quarter flurry which saw them walk away 17.10 (112) to 13.8 (86) winners.

Deven Robertson made an emphatic return after missing the last two rounds with the midfielder collecting 29 touches, nine marks, eight tackles and five clearances in a best on ground performance.

Brisbane gave up the first two goals of the game but responded with five of the next six majors to take a 10-point lead into quarter time.

Fergus McFadyen booted his first followed by Curtis McCarthy, Will McLachlan, Reece Torrent and Brandon Ryan.

McLachlan enjoyed a strong outing finished with 16 possessions, 11 marks and two majors.

Youi Lions Academy product Dan Annable backed up his performance in the QClash as he amassed 24 disposals and eight clearances to partner Robertson nicely in the middle of the ground.

A six-goal to two quarter saw Coburg swing momentum and take a 13-point lead into the main break.

Majors to McCarthy and Youi Lions Academy product and debutant Cooper Hodge kept Brisbane within striking distance at half-time.

Luke Beecken was solid off half-back with his 21 disposals and seven marks joined by Shadeau Brain who collected 15 touches and took nine marks for the afternoon.

Darcy Craven got Brisbane off to the perfect start as Ty Gallop booted his first McCarthy his third to wrestle back momentum.

Sam Day played large minutes in the ruck throughout the contest, finishing with 23 hitouts.

Brisbane kicked the first in the final quarter to jump out to a six-point lead after both sides were deadlocked at three-quarter time.

Coburg responded with the next two majors before the Brisbane onslaught began, Torrent continued his strong VFL form with two majors, 18 touches and four clearances.

McLachlan and Torrent booted their second as James Creighton nailed his chance, McFadyen’s third and Gallop’s second took Brisbane to their largest lead of the game, which they never relinquished.

Gallop’s third put the finishing touches on a ruthless fourth quarter performance which sees Brisbane jump back inside the top four on the VFL ladder.

Brisbane will return home in Round 20 to take on Casey at Brighton Homes Arena from 11:05am on August 9.
