For quite some time, Lions fans had been begging for Matty Eagles to get the call-up to make his Senior debut. 

And before Round 7, the moment finally arrived, when Eagles was elevated to the primary list which indicated his upcoming debut.  

The fan favourite went on to play four games before picking up an abdominal injury which saw him ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Lions received two first-rounders from the Pies in exchange for Beams.

The footy world was shocked in May when Dayne Beams announced he was stepping down as captain.

Beams made the decision due to personal reasons, with Dayne Zorko taking over as skipper. 

2 - Lions delist five

List changes are never a nice time of the year, and plenty of fans were interested to see who the Lions had delisted following the season.

Rohan Bewick, Claye Beams, Tom Bell, Marco Paparone and Jake Barrett were the unfortunate ones who were not offered playing contracts for 2019. 

1 - Harris Andrews admitted to hospital 

The top story on lions.com.au this year was an update on the condition of Harris Andrews, who was stretched off the field after collecting a sickening blow from GWS' Jeremy Cameron in Round 14.

Andrews went on to make a full recovery and returned to the Lions' team in Round 19, while Cameron was rubbed out for five weeks.
