The Lions have long maintained a strong association with Fitzroy FC and enjoy following the progress of the Club’s sponsored players each year. The Men’s and Women’s teams play alternate weeks in front of enthusiastic supporters at the famous Brunswick Street Oval in Fitzroy.

The Women’s Senior and Reserves teams are enjoying a strong season in Premier Division, while the Club’s Women’s program continues to grow, with a third team now playing in VAFA’s Division 4.

Senior coach, Nathan Jumeau, says Meg Orr is Fitzroy through and through. Meg played with the Fitzroy Juniors first and is now playing her first year of senior footy after training with the group as a junior. Adapting beautifully, Meg’s strengths recently led to a VAFA Rising Star nomination.

“Meg is a great interceptor and user of the ball through the back and middle of the group. She is such a great player to coach because of her willingness to improve and be part of the growth of the women's team”, Nathan said.

The Fitzroy Men’s Senior and Reserves teams are playing in VAFA’s Premier C Division, with both teams sitting top of the ladder on the eve of Finals.

Coach, Jack Dalton, said that Alistair McQuire made his senior debut this season and his involvement shows that the future of the club is in good hands.

“Alistair has wasted no time showing exactly what he is capable of. Playing with a composure and football IQ well beyond his years, he has looked right at home among experienced senior players. Whether competing in the air, winning his own football, or making smart decisions under pressure, Alistair has shown that he belongs at senior level.”

Brisbane Lions are proud to have Meg and Alistair continue this important connection with Fitzroy FC. We wish them well for the remainder of the season and will follow their ensuing careers with interest.
