The extension will see Dunne enter a fifth season with the Lions after establishing herself as a key member of the Lions’ defence.

The 26-year-old arrived from Ireland and debuted for the Lions in 2023, before going on to win her first AFLW premiership that season. That same year, Dunne became the only Irish player to have won an AFLW premiership and GAA premiership in the same year.

The key defender has been elevated to the leadership group this year and celebrated her 50th AFLW game two weeks ago when the Lions defeated Port Adelaide.

"I'm really happy to be staying with the Lions for another year," Dunne said.

"To think that I've been with the club for four seasons now is crazy.

"It was daunting when I moved from Ireland to Australia, but now I think I'm a different person and a better person for it.

“I feel much more comfortable in my game now. When I first started, I was more of a lockdown player, but as I’ve come to understand the game better, I’ve become more confident in taking the game on.”

“Since then, I’ve continued to grow my skill set and knowledge of the game, which has given me the confidence to get involved offensively and look for opportunities with ball in hand.”

Brisbane Lions AFLW senior coach Craig Starcevich welcomed Dunne's extension, praising her leadership on and off the field.

“We’re delighted Jenn will remain a Lion in 2027 and look forward to seeing her continue to grow as a leader and a player," Starcevich said.

"She has become an integral part of our defensive set up, taking on the opposition's best forwards and spring-boarding our attack when she has ball in hand.

“In addition to her unique on field traits, she remains one of the few Irish players to win both an All-Ireland Championship and AFLW Premiership. She was named an All-Australian last year in just her third season and is in similar form this year. She’s a popular teammate and we’re so happy she’ll be with us next season.”
