Brisbane Lions AFLW midfielder Ally Anderson has been named in the 2019 Virgin Australia AFL Women’s All-Australian Team on Tuesday evening at the W Awards in Melbourne.

Anderson produced her best season yet in 2019, earning her debut honour as an All Australian player.

The final 21-player team was selected from a squad of 40 players announced after the home and away season.

The team was selected with 16 players on the field and five interchange players, replicating the composition of AFLW team line-ups.

2019 AFL Women’s Best on Ground medallist and dual premiership player Erin Phillips was named captain of the 2019 Virgin Australia AFL Women’s All-Australian Team, while Adelaide teammate and fellow dual premiership player Chelsea Randall was appointed vice-captain.

The 14 debutants named in the All-Australian Team, include: Ally Anderson (Brisbane Lions), Ash Brazill (Collingwood), Kiara Bowers (Fremantle), Monique Conti (Western Bulldogs), Jess Duffin (Kangaroos), Jasmine Garner (Kangaroos), Kerryn Harrington (Carlton), Anne Hatchard (Adelaide Crows), Gemma Houghton (Fremantle), Stevie Lee Thompson (Adelaide Crows), Meg McDonald (Geelong Cats), Lauren Pearce (Melbourne), Gabbie Pound (Carlton) and Madison Prespakis (Carlton).

AFL Head of Women’s Football Nicole Livingstone said selection in the Virgin Australia AFL Women’s All-Australian Team was a significant honour.

“The Virgin Australia AFL Women’s All-Australian Team recognises the best players in each position throughout the entire 2019 season,” Livingstone said.

“Selection in the All-Australian Team reflects the outstanding performances these players have produced week-in-week-out for their respective clubs and acknowledges their role in the success of the third season of the NAB AFL Women’s Competition.

“I want to congratulate the entire squad of 40 players, and the final team of 21. Selecting both the squad and team was a difficult process and there will of course be players unlucky not to be included.

“The final team represents the best players of another incredible season and will be an achievement long cherished by the players selected,” she said.
