The Brisbane Lions have made official their intention of selecting Hyundai Lions Academy member Jonathan Freeman at the 2013 National Draft by lodging an official bidding nomination with the AFL before Friday’s 2pm deadline.

Freeman is a 199cm key position forward who has shown considerable improvement over the past 12 months, but like most developing big men, is still a work in progress.

Although the Lions now have priority access to selecting Freeman at next month’s Draft, there is still no guarantee that he will end up at the Club.

All other clubs will have an opportunity to trump the Lions for Freeman’s services when they convene for the Father/Son and Academy bidding meeting next Monday morning.

Should a rival club be interested in Freeman, they can nominate a draft selection with which they are committed to drafting him.

The Lions will then have the option to nominate a higher pick to select the 19-year-old Queenslander, or see him drafted to another club.

Either way, the Lions will get to have the final say.

The Father/Son & Academy Players bidding meeting will be held at 10am on Monday at the beginning of the AFL Trade Period.
