Josh Walker will fill Harris Andrews’ boots on Saturday, with the key defender replacing the Vice-Captain against Hawthorn in Launceston.

Andrews was suspended for one match earlier this week after he was found guilty of striking a North Melbourne player in the first quarter of the Lions’ Round 18 win.

Walker’s inclusion is the only change for Senior Coach Chris Fagan’s 22-man team taking on the Hawks.

Fagan told media earlier today that he has full faith in Walker.

“The thing is you’re going to have good players out from time to time,” he said.

“This week is no different.

“We’ve got our number one tall defender out, but Josh Walker will come into the side and play that role.

“He’s been playing that role really well at different times over the past couple of years and no doubt he’s looking forward to his opportunity.”

The Hawks have won their past three matches against tough opposition including Collingwood, Geelong and Fremantle.

Fagan said they are not to be underestimated.

“We’re probably playing the most in form team in the competition at the moment,” he said.

“It’s going to be a tough game.”

The match will also mark a milestone for Darcy Gardiner, who celebrates his 100th AFL match for the Lions.

Fagan said Gardiner, who is in the leadership group, is the ultimate team player.

“Darcy’s probably one of the most popular players at our Club for the way that he goes about his football,” Fagan said.

“He’s a tough, honest competitor who makes his opposition earn every kick. He’s brave, courageous, a great team man.

“It will be a big motivation for our group this week to go down there and honour him on his 100th game.”
