The Lions will welcome their third Irish player to the den following the signing of County Kerry footballer Deividas Uosis for the 2021 season.

Lithuanian-born athlete Uosis, who moved to Ireland at age four, will join fellow Irish recruits James Madden (AFL) and Orla O’Dwyer (AFLW) at the Club.

All Irish recruits receive a two-year international contract, typically as a Category B rookie, with new rules allowing for two Irish players on your Category B Rookie list from 2021.

Lions GM Football David Noble said he was excited to see what the Irishman could bring to the team.

“The 19-year-old was a standout performer at the AFL Europe Combine in December. He’s quick and agile, with strong tackling ability and excellent closing speed and the Club is wrapped to have secured his signature” he said.

“The Club will explore the option of bringing Uosis out during the year to allow him to gain some more Australian rules football experience with a local Club as well as doing more medical and physical examinations”

Uosis, who turns 20 in June, stands 182cm and was the fastest AFL Europe Combine participant over 20m (2.76sec), placed fourth in agility testing (7.92sec) and his result in the Yo-Yo test (21.5) would see him compare in the top 5% of the national combine results.
