Opposition teams visiting the Gabba for the remainder of 2013 will be wary of the fast-finishing Brisbane Lions.

Since the Round 11 Bye, the Lions have secured wins from each of their three home matches – all courtesy of dominant fourth quarter performances.

The first, and most remarkable, effort came in Round 13 against Geelong when the home side recorded the biggest comeback in Club history by piling on eight last quarter goals to stun the Cats.

Then in QClash 6, the Lions looked threatened at three quarter-time before breaking the shackles with the first five goals of the final term.

Fans witnessed another barnstorming finish last Saturday night, when the Lions booted seven goals to three to overcome the Kangaroos.

The Lions have now kicked a total of 20 goals across their three final quarters at the Gabba, compared to their opponents’ six.

That’s a 14-goal difference in just three quarters of football.

There’s probably no one reason behind these fast finishes, although Pearce Hanley suggests the parochial home crowd is a contributing factor.

“Amazing win last night,” Hanley tweeted on Sunday.

“Thanks all for your messages I love our supporters. Nothing better than hearing your voice when we come roaring home.”
