Last Sunday’s resounding loss to North Melbourne exposed a number of areas that the Lions will need to drastically improve if they’re to keep their 2013 season alive.
Assistant Coach Murray Davis identified two aspects in particular that the Club would need to rectify heading into this Sunday’s all-important clash against Melbourne.
“Clearly we didn’t do enough things well,” Davis told LIONS TV as part of the regular Vero Coaches’ Wrap.
“Our work rate, our ability to win one-on-one contests – we felt that we were certainly beaten in those areas (against North Melbourne). That will be a strong focus for us moving into the Demons.”
David also recognised the promising performances from the Club’s latest debutants – Marco Paparone and Sam Docherty – under difficult circumstances.
“They were both really good. Paparone kicked three goals, and Docherty got his hands on the footy a bit as well – that was a positive,” Davis said.
“We got another game into young Sam Mayes as well who showed he’s up to the level and will continue to improve.”
“So there certainly were some positives in those guys’ performances on the weekend.”
The Lions will look to bounce back when they return home to the Gabba for just the second time this season.
“We love playing in front of our members and supporters at the Gabba and we’ve only had the one game there thus far,” Davis said.
“We’re certainly looking forward to a big crowd and hopefully getting back onto the winners’ list.”
