Brisbane Lions talent manager Rob Kerr added run to the side with the club's 2010 draft picks

Draft summary
"We're very happy because part of our strategy was to add some run and flexibility to the team. We feel that we've met that criteria with the players we've selected. We traded up so we could get access to one of the quality midfielders and with Jared Polec we feel we've got a player with huge amount of talent."

Selection No.5: Jared Polec (Woodville-West Torrens)
Player profile
"Jared is going to be able to provide us with plenty of run and carry and really add something to our line up. We didn't make the decision on Jared until late. When we had a hard look at our list and looked at what we needed the most, Jared was probably the best fit of the group in terms of the players that were going to be available.

"It was a real toss up between Dyson (Heppell) and Jared. Dyson is a terrific player and will have a fantastic career. We just thought from a pure list management perspective that Jared fitted our needs just a little better. I wouldn’t be surprised if a number of the guys we drafted play next year and we'd hope Jared would play a number of games."

Selection No. 25: Patrick Karnezis (Oakleigh Chargers)
Player profile
"We're pretty excited to have Patrick because for a tall guy, he's got terrific ground level skills and he can also do a bit in the middle. For a player of his size he moves well and is going to be hard to match up on because he has the overhead skills and also the quality ground-level skills. We hope he might be able to develop and play a little bit up the ground.

"He had a really good start to the year. He probably trailed off a little bit, but at the start of the year he was in top-10-15 draft pick form and that certainly stuck in the mind."

Selection No. 28: Ryan Lester (Oakleigh Chargers)
Player profile
"Ryan played defence for the state team, but he also played a fair bit of midfield for his club - we probably picked him more on the fact that he played some good footy in the middle. He's a player, who has played a variety of roles and every role he's been given, he's done extremely well at. He's another one at 191cm who can run and we think will fill a number of roles for us."

Selection No.32: Joshua Green (Clarence)
Player profile
"We paused a little bit before picking Josh. The question there was, do we add another midfielder or do we go for a key-position player? We got a couple of tall boys, but we were thinking about a genuine key-position player. In the end, we felt Josh was too good a player to pass up."
