The Brisbane Lions AFC welcomed four new recruits to the Club at tonight's 2010 NAB AFL National Draft held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.
The Club used its prized first round selection (Pick No.5 overall) on hard running midfielder Jared Polec from Woodville-West Torrens in South Australia before drafting clever half-forward flanker Patrick Karnezis (Pick No.25 overall), medium sized defender Ryan Lester (Pick No.28) and speedy midfielder Josh Green (Pick No.32).
The Lions also used their final selection (Pick No.65) to promote rookie Claye Beams to the senior list.
Lions National Talent Manager Rob Kerr was delighted that the Club was able to add further depth to its already youthful midfield.
"Our strategy during Trade Week was to upgrade our first round selection so we could secure one of the finest teenagers in the country, and we have been able to do that through the recruitment of Jared Polec," Kerr said.
"Jared is a quality midfielder who provides us with some much needed run and carry. He performed well in his senior SANFL matches this year and managed to poll nine votes in the Magarey Medal."
"Josh Green is just a pure footballer who can win the hard ball in the midfield. He is incredibly quick and can also crumb effectively around goals."
"Patrick Karnezis is a 191cm half-forward flanker with good ground level skills for a player of his size. He also has the ability to play in the midfield which makes him a tough match-up for the opposition," Kerr said.
"Ryan Lester is another 191cm utility who adds a great deal of flexibility to the side."
