Jason Akermanis fever will hit Brisbane this Saturday night.

The former Lions champion will return to the Gabba with his new club the Western Bulldogs after leaving in controversial circumstances last year.

It will be interesting to see how the Lions faithful will treat one of their all time favourites.

Whilst playing for the Lions the crowd appreciated his skill and explosiveness, and he broke games apart and was loved for it.

His on-field exploits saw him achieve just about everything a person can in the game - three premierships, a Brownlow Medal, and two club best and fairests in 248 games.

However, if you put past form aside, how will he be viewed in his new colours?

The game is a dream match for the Lions’ marketing department, who are urging our supporters to wear maroon to the game to show their true colours.

Hopefully the public will respond and the weekend’s crowd will be one of the largest for the year.

This has to be good for football.

Will the boys go out of their way to make life tough for Aker?

Probably not - hopefully he will be treated like he is just another opposition player.

The way to intimidate the opposition is to make sure your attack on the ball is physical when the ball is in dispute and your pressure is high when they have the ball.

If this happens against the Dogs, then Aker will know that it has been a tough contest.

Many have asked me this week if Aker will do his customary handstand after the game if the Dogs win.

Hopefully, we won’t have to find out.
