Noah Answerth was named the Brisbane Lions Rookie of the Year, just two years after he thought he would never play footy again, after he suffered a serious back injury playing for the Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup. He was presented with his award by 2018 Rookie of the Year winner Alex Witherden.

Answerth was one of six players drafted to the Lions in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft, with the Club selecting him with Pick No.55.

After stringing together consistent performances in the NEAFL’s backline, Answerth was given his AFL opportunity in Round 6’s QClash against the Gold Coast SUNS at Metricon Stadium.

In front of his family and friends, who had flown up from Melbourne, he produced a strong performance and retained his position as a rebounding half back for the remainder of the 2019 season.

In Round 20’s win over the Western Bulldogs at The Gabba he had 18 disposals (eight contested), seven intercept possessions and six marks. He was justly rewarded for his performance by receiving the Rising Star nomination for the round.

The 19-year-old played in 19 games, including the Club’s two AFL Finals Series matches and finished the year with 13 victories.

Answerth was the only draftee to crack the senior side in 2019 and was one of two debutants, alongside rookie Mitchell Hinge.
