Barring an extraordinary feat in front of goal from one of his team-mates in the final two rounds of the regular season, Lions Captain Jonathan Brown is poised to finish the year as the Club’s leading goal-kicker for the fourth time of his career.

Brown currently leads the way for the Lions in 2012 with 38 goals from 18 matches - 12 clear of his nearest rival Daniel Merrett (26) who poses very little threat considering he has returned to his regular full-back role in recent weeks.

It will prove quite an achievement for the powerful centre half-forward, who will join former Premiership team-mate Alastair Lynch as the only players in the Club’s merged history to lead the goal-kicking on four occasions.

Lynch also previously led Fitzroy and the Bears’ goal-kicking in 1993 and 1996 respectively to finish his career as a six-time Club leading goal-kicker.

Daniel Bradshaw - another quality forward who shared the 50m arc with Brown throughout his career - topped the Lions’ goal-kicking on three occasions (2005, 2006 and 2008).

It will be another great achievement for the 30 year-old, who became the greatest ever goal-kicker in the Club's merged history last year.

Brown, however, still remains some distance behind recent Lions Hall of Fame inductee Jack Moriarty who led the Club’s goal-kicking a record nine times during his time with Fitzroy.

In addition to Brown, the Lions’ 2012 goal-kicking list features nine other players who have kicked 10 goals or more this season.

It is only the second time in the past seven years that the Lions have had 10 or more players kick double figure goals in a season - proving that more players are beginning to share the scoring load.

This list includes Merrett (26 goals), Tom Rockliff (18), Daniel Rich (16), Rohan Bewick (15), Aaron Cornelius (13), Dayne Zorko (13), and Josh Green (11) - who have all kicked career-high goal totals this year - as well as James Polkinghorne (12) and Ash McGrath (11).

Jack Redden, meanwhile, is just one goal away from becoming the 11th player to reach double figures for the Club in 2012.

As a basis for comparison, at least 13 players kicked 10 goals or more during the Club’s remarkable period of success from 2001-2004.
