The Brisbane Lions will unveil their sixth debutant for the season when Keidean Coleman runs out for his first AFL game against Collingwood in Friday night’s blockbuster at the Gabba.

The academy product has kicked eight goals in his past two reserves matches against St Kilda and Collingwood and coach Chris Fagan said he had no hesitation in unleashing the half-forward on the big stage.

“It’s something to look forward to, I don’t muck around let’s bring him in for the big one,’’ he said.

"He's had some fantastic performances this year.

"He's got beautiful skills, great balance, (he's a) good tackler.

"I think it's great he gets his opportunity. His is a really good story.

"He moved from Darwin when he was nine years old to improve his education and get a chance at footy and here he is 10 years later getting his debut."

Coleman was overlooked in his draft year but decided to stay on in the Lions academy last year as an overage player.

It paid dividends as he impressed the coaching staff with his improvement throughout the season in the NEAFL to be drafted last season.

This year he has taken a further step and Fagan said it his form had warranted a call up for some time.

The 20-year-old’s feet still haven’t touched the ground since hearing the news and reckons his proud mum is the same.

“It’s definitely been an exciting week, I was talking to my mum and she said it can’t get any bigger than Collingwood because I grew up following them and it’s a Friday night game, so it’s just a great opportunity,’’ he said.

Coleman will replace the suspended Lincoln McCarthy, while veteran defender Daniel Rich has forced his way back into the team after missing the most recent match with a tight hamstring.

Alex Witherden has been omitted.
