But finding a quality tall is proving no easy task.
“Every club would be in the mix for a tall forward if they could find one, (but) they’re pretty hard to find,” Kerr told SEN on Wednesday.
“If we could find someone, we’d certainly be quite interested.”
The Lions already have one of the game’s premier key forwards in Captain Jonathan Brown, but with the three-time Club Champion turning 31 later this month, it’s important to start finding suitable replacements.
The Lions had initially shown interest in luring Adelaide forward/ruckman Kurt Tippett back home, but were later advised that the big Queenslander had nominated the Sydney Swans as his preferred destination.
Tippett’s decision has given the Lions greater flexibility to explore other trade and free agency options.
“It’s probably fair to say that one of the things that was a handbrake on our movements was we were waiting to see how the Kurt Tippett scenario played out,” Kerr said.
“Obviously if you bring a player like Kurt in, there’s a fair commitment there and that was going to limit our ability to move forward with other players - that’s not to say we might’ve gotten one more in.”
Even though there have been no real advancements on the potential Tippett trade to Sydney, Kerr all but ruled out the Lions making a last minute bid for him should negotiations between the Crows and Swans fall through.
“The gap (between the Swans’ and the Lions’ offer) is probably a little bit big for us,” he said.
