The prestigious annual MVP award goes to the player adjudged to be the best performed across the 2022 AFL competition, nominated by the league’s players.

Lachie Neale, Charlie Cameron and Hugh McCluggage have been in outstanding form throughout the season and played a pivotal part in getting the Lions to their fourth consecutive finals series.

Neale has arguably been in better form than 2020, where he was awarded the coveted Brownlow Medal. The 29-year-old is averaging 30.1 touches and sits in the 'elite' category for disposals, contested possessions, clearances and ground ball gets.

His midfield teammate McCluggage has enjoyed an equally successful season. The 24-year-old is sitting at career-high numbers for disposals, marks and tackles and is in All-Australian contention, having been named in the 40-man squad for the past three years.

Charlie Cameron continued to put bums on seats in 2022, with the Lions leading goal-kicker slotting 47 majors and laying more tackles than ever before in Lions colours.

The nomination for the MVP Award is a two-stage process. The first involves players nominating three teammates for the award, before three nominees from every club are presented to the wider playing group for a vote to decide the winner.

Players cannot vote for their own teammates in stage two of the process.

Other nominees for the club include Noah Answerth for Most Courageous and Kai Lohmann for Best First Year Player.
