It was a gruelling morning for the Brisbane Lions as they took to the track for their 3km time trial.

Having not run the event last pre-season due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Lions split the team across two groups.

As many would have expected, it was endurance king Harry Sharp who took out top honours on Saturday morning, leading group one from start to finish in an impressive effort.

Hugh McCluggage was the next best of the pack and finished second, while speedy forward Zac Bailey finished third with both players recording personal best times.

Having just announced a contract extension until 2029, Eric Hipwood put his best foot forward, finishing first in group two.

The key forward timed his run perfectly, putting the burners on in the second last lap to finish ahead of new recruits Will Ashcroft and Josh Dunkley.

In their first 3km time trial, both Ashcroft and Dunkley, alongside Jimmy Tunstill and Darcy Wilmot all ran impressively.

Overall, the Brisbane Lions recorded six personal best times in a strong showing for the Club.
