Brisbane Lions premiership Co-Captain Lachie Neale is progressing as planned to be ready to play in week one of the AFL finals.

The midfielder, who has missed missed the last two matches with a quad strain, is training well and tracking as expected.

The 32-year-old will sit out of Sunday night’s clash with Hawthorn and then have the bye week before finals to fully recover.

Young midfielder James Tunstill has however been given the green light to play this weekend after coming out of concussion protocols a fortnight ago, as has exciting forward Kai Lohmann after overcoming a calf strain.

Tunstill and Lohmann are both chances to come into coach Chris Fagan’s 23-man team to face the Hawks.

The Lions also provided the following update yesterday:

Forward Eric Hipwood will miss Sunday’s Round 24 clash with Hawthorn due to injury, though midfielder Jarrod Berry is still a chance to play.

Berry, who dislocated his shoulder in Friday’s win against Fremantle, received positive news after he underwent scans on Monday which cleared him of any serious injury.

The Club will now decide whether to play Berry on Sunday or give him the next two weeks to recover for the first final.

Hipwood also underwent scans, after sustaining a calf injury during Friday’s win over the Dockers, which showed a calf tear likely to sideline him for three to four weeks.
