History will be made this Sunday when the Adelaide Crows' Ebony Marinoff and Brisbane Lions' Ally Anderson become the first players to reach 100 AFLW games.
Fittingly in a twist of fate, the pair will run out on the same day at the same time in Round Seven as the Crows take on the Sydney Swans at Thomas Farms Oval in Adelaide and the Lions go head-to-head with Richmond at Brighton Homes Arena on Sunday at 3:05pm (AEST).
Remarkably Marinoff and Anderson have not missed a single match since they ran out in 2017, with both Adelaide and Brisbane also etching their names in the record books, becoming the first clubs to play 100 AFLW games.
It’s another significant moment in the league’s history that falls in the milestone 10th season.
Since being taken with Adelaide’s first pick in the inaugural 2016 AFLW Draft, Marinoff has amassed an array of accolades. Named the first Rising Star of the competition at the W Awards in 2017, the explosive midfielder is a triple premiership player for the Crows (2017, 2019, 2022 S6), three-time club champion (2021, 2023 and 2024) and was crowned the AFLW Best and Fairest last year. The Adelaide co-captain has also notched up seven All Australian blazers and was awarded the AFLCA AFLW Champion Player of the Year (2024).
Recruited from Zillmere in the QAFLW, Anderson has been a key part of the Lions’ midfield over the last nine seasons. A dual premiership player (2021, 2023) and four-time club best and fairest, the 31-year-old’s impact on the game has been immense. In 2022 (S7) she took home the league’s highest honour – claiming the AFLW Best and Fairest – and has been named in the All Australian Team on three occasions.
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon congratulated Marinoff and Anderson on this historic achievement.
“On behalf of the AFL I would like to congratulate Ebony and Ally on becoming the first two AFLW players to achieve 100 games – it’s an incredible milestone and they should be very proud,” Dillon said.
“Not only have they played every game possible since the competition began, which is a testament to their work ethic and professionalism, the level of which they have contributed to their teams and the awards they have won will see them go down as two of the most decorated players in AFLW history.
“They are both AFLW Best and Fairest winners who have a combined five premierships, 10 All Australian blazers and seven club champion awards, they are leaders of our game and have played across two of the powerhouse clubs in the league.
“On the field their achievements speak for themselves, but I’d also like to acknowledge and celebrate what they have done for young girls across the country as role models, with junior players inspired by their performances and what they have given back to the community.
“It’s going to be a special occasion on Sunday for both Adelaide and Brisbane, and I encourage all fans to get along to Thomas Farms Oval and Brighton Homes Arena to witness and celebrate Ebony and Ally’s milestone.”
