AFLW Match Report: Lions survive scare from Tigers in star's milestone game

Brisbane has survived a scare from Richmond to turn on the jets late and power to a 34-point win in Ally Anderson's 100th AFLW game

ALLY Anderson has celebrated her 100-game AFLW milestone in grand style, sparking a third-quarter comeback to lift Brisbane to a 34-point win over Richmond.

The winless Tigers threatened to cause the biggest boilover of the season when they opened up an eight-point lead early in the third quarter of Sunday's match.

LIONS v TIGERS Full match coverage and stats

Brisbane had kicked just one goal up to that point, but Anderson simply refused to let the game get away on her milestone day in front of an adoring crowd at Brighton Homes Arena.

Anderson's quick snap sparked a run of six unanswered goals as the Lions ran all over the top of Richmond to secure the 7.12 (54) to 3.2 (20) win.

It capped a special weekend for Brisbane following the Lions' 47-point AFL Grand Final win over Geelong the previous day.

The crowd steadily built up to more than 4000 across Sunday's match, given the men's team were due to arrive shortly after the final siren to celebrate their AFL premiership.

"Thank god we got the job done today so we can really celebrate it together," Brisbane captain Breanna Koenen told the Seven Network post-game.

"It's really special for the club."

Brisbane improved its record to 4-3, while Richmond is 0-7 and faces a battle to avoid the wooden spoon.

Anderson tallied 21 disposals, seven score involvements, five tackles, three clearances and a goal.

But it was her efforts in the third quarter, when she racked up nine disposals, a goal and a goal assist, that helped turn the match.

In a fitting case of timing, Anderson and Adelaide's Ebony Marinoff both became the first women to play 100 AFLW games due to their respective matches on Sunday being played simultaneously.

Anderson was chaired off through a guard of honour after Brisbane's win.

"AFLW wasn't even a thought then (back in high school," Anderson reflected on her journey after Sunday's match.

"The fact I'm here 15 years later playing professional sport is crazy. To hit 100 after nine years is pretty special."

Both sides struggled for fluency in a goalless opening quarter, with numerous chances wasted due to poor skill errors.

Brisbane star Courtney Hodder broke the goal drought with six minutes remaining in the first half.

But the Tigers replied in style, with Caitlin Greiser and Montana Beruldsen nailing goals within a minute of each other to give Richmond a shock two-point lead at halftime.

Alarm bells were ringing when Richmond's Ellie McKenzie was gifted a goal via a 50m penalty early in the third quarter, handing the Tigers a 20-12 lead.

But Anderson's clever snap sparked a flurry of four Brisbane goals in the space of 11 minutes, giving them a 20-point lead heading into the final quarter.

The Lions added two goals to nil in the final term to seal the win and spark wild celebrations.
