Dual Diploma - Diploma of Leadership and Management / Diploma of Sport (BSB50420/SIS50321)

Kick start your career in sport with the Brisbane Lions in our fully integrated education and sports industry program, delivered in partnership with TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275). 

The year-long dual Diploma of Sport and Diploma of Leadership and Management (SIS50321 / BSB50420) course, run on-site at Brighton Homes Arena, allows students to gain practical knowledge and expertise while building skills and knowledge needed to manage people, build relationships, networks and teams in sport, and become a better leader. 

This unique student learning experience features a combination of classroom based and immersive learning activities, including up to 100 hours of optional work experience across the Lions and wider AFL industry, giving you the opportunity to apply your skills and build your networks for your future career.  

Students will also have premier access to Lions staff, coaches and players with guest lecturers from the Lions sharing their insights and experiences from the sporting industry and the lessons learned throughout their journey. 

Delivery and location:  

This program is an accelerated Dual Diploma delivered in partnership with TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275) over 12 months, with 2x full days a week onsite at Brighton Homes Arena.  

Participants are also given the opportunity to attend work experience at games and events during evenings and weekends at both The Gabba and Brighton Homes Arena. 

What you will study:  

In this course you'll cover coaching fundamentals including how to plan and deliver coaching programs for high-performing athletes, apply sport psychology principles, and coordinate health and wellness programs. In addition, you'll develop essential sports industry skills including managing risk, leading and managing people, and maintaining workplace health and safety.  

Taking your skills to the next level, you'll also be mentored in team leadership and management, discover how to utilise emotional intelligence to maximise outcomes, and learn how to develop and implement effective projects and business operational plans. 

Throughout the course you will be supported by both Brisbane Lions and TAFE Queensland's highly-experienced team of industry leaders, who will give you the guidance you need to succeed in your studies and beyond. 

By completing the Diploma of Sport / Diploma of Leadership and Management (SIS50321 / BSB50420), you will also be eligible to receive up to one year of university credit towards select undergraduate degrees. 

Eligibility:

There are no ATAR requirements for this course, but all students are expected to have successfully completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent.  

Students must attend an online selection interview with the Brisbane Lions to be accepted onto the program.  

Students require a Laptop which needs to be brought to all classes, access to the internet outside of class hours, and posess suitable digital skills including use Microsoft Office suite and ability to record videos for assessments purposes.
