Harris Andrews’ winning year

Before the 2019 season Lions Vice-Captain Harris Andrews had won a combined fourteen games in his four seasons. This year he won thirteen games and tasted his first September action.

“It’s a little bit unbelievable to be honest,” he said.

“I think it’s a testament to the boys and the way they worked hard throughout the last couple of years.”

Andrews, who received his first All Australian blazer this year and was named Captain of the 22-under-22 side said it was a thrill playing in front of a packed crowd the last month.

“It was great, I really enjoyed it,” he said.

“To see the fans at the Gabba, when we did play those two finals, they were loving it and packed the house out.

“It’s a massive testament to the Brisbane society about how they’ve gotten behind us.”

However, now the team has experienced their first AFL Finals Series in a decade, they now appreciate how hard it is to be the best.

“It’s going to take a lot of work to get back there,” he said.

“It’s something I certainly want to strive towards for the next couple of years.”
