Brisbane Lions midfielder Lachie Neale has polled 26 votes to finish equal third in tonight’s Brownlow Medal at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne.

The ball magnet polled more votes than Simon Black did in 2002 when he took home “Charlie” with 25 votes.

Neale finished behind winner Nat Fyfe from Fremantle, Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield and placed equal third with Carlton’s Patrick Cripps.

The 26-year-old polled maximum votes in Round 2, 6, 9, 16, 19 and 23 in his first season as a Lion and played all 22 home and away games, including the Club’s sixteen wins for the season.

The midfielder finished the season, including the Lions’ two AFL Finals Series matches, averaging 30.9 disposals per game, 15.8 being contested, 7.9 clearances and a disposal efficiency of 78.7. He booted 12 goals for the year.

Last month the magnetic ball winner received his first All Australian blazer, his first time breaking the team after being named in the squad four times in his career.

The 26-year-old’s highlights reel for the Lions in 2019 included 51 touches in the team’s Round 23 loss to Richmond, achieving a Club record of disposals for a game and being only three touches off the all-time AFL record.

Captain Dayne Zorko was the second place Lion and finished 10th overall with 19 votes.
