On the back of three consecutive losses with an average margin of just over 54 points, there’s no doubt the Brisbane Lions’ confidence has been severely dented.

But Captain Jonathan Brown says it’s up to the players alone to work themselves back into form and regain that belief in their ability.

“We’re going through a difficult period (and) that can certainly knock your motivation around and knock your intensity levels around,” Brown said from the Club’s visit to Queen Street Mall in Brisbane on Wednesday.

“We’ve been consistently walking in 25-30 points down at quarter time, which shows a lack of intensity and application to the task early in the game.”

“We’re sitting back and becoming reactive - almost like passengers - coming up against good opposition, instead of hitting it head-on right from the first bounce,” he said.

“That’s something that only the players can bring to the table. At the end of the day, we know we have to put in a better performance.”

Brown said he will be treating this Sunday’s match against Greater Western Sydney at the Gabba like every other.

“As a competitor, I expect we can win every game. So I’m absolutely going out there expecting to win - that will be my mental approach to the game,” he said.

The 30 year-old centre half-forward also said the team had set itself for an improved collective performance leading up to their Round 11 Bye.

“We’ve got three games to go until we get a week off, which is a good little focus for the group.”
