The Lions weren’t the only winners at the Gabba on Saturday night with the goal-fest against Port Adelaide also delivering a windfall for Ronald McDonald House.

Ahead of the game Lions captain Dayne Zorko announced that for every goal his side kicked against the Power, the Club would donate $500 to Ronald McDonald House.

The money would be used to help support families who needed to stay close to their seriously ill children while they received medical care.

Port Adelaide are one of this year’s flag favourites but Zorko was convinced his men would not only get the premiership points, but also have a juicy check to deliver to Ronald McDonald House by the end of the game.

The rain that drenched down over the Gabba at the start of the game threatened to turn it into a tight dour affair, but thanks to a four goal haul by Charlie Cameron the Lions ran out 13.15 (93) to 5.14 (44) winners.

It was then up to Vice Captain Harris Andrews to hand over a giant cheque worth $6500 to Ronald McDonald House after the final siren.

Preshni Pillay, the EM of Communications and Marketing for Ronald McDonald House Charities, South East Queensland agreed the win had not only brought joy to all Lions fans but also the families who relied on the support from Ronald McDonald House.

“We would like to thank the Brisbane Lions for their dedicated support of Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland,’’ she said.

“This generous donation will go towards supporting families caring for their seriously ill children whilst being close to the care they require in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast.

“We appreciate the activities they organised, which brought smiles to the families who enjoyed the experience.”
