The Brisbane Lions VFL have continued their strong run towards the end of the home and away season with a narrow 12-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at the Moreton Bay Sporting Complex on Saturday. 

In a tight contest, the Lions put together a surging second half effort to overpower the Tigers and secure their spot inside the top four on the Smithy’s VFL ladder.  

Veteran defender Ryan Lester put together another dominant performance, leading the charge for the Lions defensive unit alongside an energetic Darcy Wilmot to gather 27 disposals and 12 marks for the day.

Darcy Fort put his ruck craft on show, making 20 hitouts and four clearances in a strong outing on his 29th birthday.  

Henry Smith and Tom Fullarton providing plenty of damage on the scoreboard for the Lions.  

Smith worked quickly to find two goals in the space of ten minutes to keep the Lions in touch with the Tigers early in the second quarter.  

While a quick succession of goals from Fullarton, Kalin Lane, and Jaxon Prior straight out of the gates in the second half gave the Lions the boost they were looking for to chase home the win.

Wylie Buzza, Toby Triffet and Blake Coleman also all contributed at goal, with key defender Connor McFadyen even managing to sneak forward to serve up a clever snap from the pocket. 

The Brisbane Lions will now face Sandringham at the Trevor Barker Beach Oval in Sandringham this Saturday.
