There was no love lost on-field as the Brisbane Lions headed north to Aspley for their match simulation.

The Lions squad was divided into two teams, with red and maroon to face off in three 15-minute quarters.

In an exciting sign of the year ahead for Brisbane fans, Josh Dunkley and Will Ashcroft attended the first centre bounce for the maroon side, alongside Hugh McCluggage and Oscar McInerney.

Dunkley seamlessly adapted to the Brisbane playing style, with his 191cm frame hard to miss around the ground. The 26-year-old even snuck forward to kick two majors for his team.

Meanwhile, Ashcroft was everywhere in the first 15-minute stint, collecting plenty of ball and not at all overwhelmed by the strong pressure applied from his opposing teammates.

The 18-year-old battled hard and showcased his physicality with some heavy tackles and a surprising big bump on the mature midfielder, Rhys Mathieson.

Mathieson worked hard for the red team, leading a hard-headed charge through his clearance ability and stoppage craft, while Cal Ah Chee was a sharpshooter for Red, kicking two majors playing as a medium forward.

Dev Robertson (maroon) threw his body around the contest and won plenty of footy, while Harry Sharp (maroon) and Jimmy Madden (red) put their speed on display multiple times throughout the match sim.

Jack Gunston (maroon) showed his selfless ability to bring others into the game but had his hands full with Irishman Darragh Joyce (Red), who gave him plenty of attention throughout the afternoon.

Darcy Wilmot (maroon) played across half-back in conjunction with Keidean Coleman and Daniel Rich and looked as lively as ever while Jimmy Tunstill (maroon) continued to push his case for consistency in the AFL side and was clean by foot when given chances.

VFL-listed players Harry Arnold and Tahj Abberley (both Red) were kept busy, tasked with shutting down Eric Hipwood and Charlie Cameron respectively, but both were competitive and took to the sky countless times to impact the contest.
