The comprehensive win was the Lions VFL’s first of the 2026 season.

In near perfect Sunday footy conditions, the Lions came out of the blocks fast with five unanswered goals in the first term, Conor McKenna and Jake Falzdeen both kicking two a piece, to see the Lions take a 30-point lead into the first break.

Will McLachlan kicked two early in the second before Demons got to work kicking the next three, but despite closing the gap to 15, the Lions steadied, McLachlan kicked another and the Lions went into the break with a handy 38-point lead.

Scott Borlace’s men didn’t take the foot off the throttle in the third, maintaining their energy around the ground, with McKenna kicking his third and going into the final term (106-61) with a 45-point lead.

McKenna struck again early in the final term, racking up his fourth, giving the Lions a 51-point lead, to equal McLachlan’s goal tally before the Demons kicked a couple late to close the margin to 38.

Darragh Joyce finished the match with 33 touches, Reece Torrent 30 and Sam Marshall 28.

Wearing the maroon blue and gold for the first time, ex Bulldogs and Carlton 205 gamer, Liam Jones finished the match with 15 touches including a terrific run-down tackle and Irish import, Ben Murphy, also on debut finished the match with 10 disposals.
