The Brisbane Lions VFL side have booted 10 goals after half-time to run over the top of Geelong at GHMBA Stadium in Round 13 Smithy’s VFL action.

Despite trailing at the first two breaks, the Lions stormed home to run away 12.13 (85) to 16.21 (117) victors.

The Lions midfield was dominant for much of the contest, thanks in a large part to Oscar McInerney.

The Big O finished with 25 touches, 12 clearances, 31 hitouts, five marks and a goal in an all-round performance.

Conor McKenna opened the Lions account inside two minutes before the Cats piled on three majors in a row to hold a 12-point lead at quarter-time.

Aiding McInerney in the centre of the ground was the exploits of Deven Robertson and Bruce Reville.

Robertson collected 29 possessions to along with a goal, seven clearances and a whopping 14 tackles.

Reville provided plenty of run all day, having 23 disposals, six clearances and a goal.

After giving up the first goal in the second term the Lions sprung to action through Ty Gallop and Fergus McFadyen’s second.

Geelong responded by booting the next two majors before Jimmy Tunstill and Jack Manly both nailed their opportunities to cut the deficit to seven points at the main break.

Luke Beecken put in another strong performance off half-back collecting 30 touches and 11 marks for the day.

A four goal to two third term swung momentum in the Lions favour with majors to Robertson, Reville, Brandon Ryan and Gallop’s second to hold an eight-point lead at three quarter time.

Geelong cut the margin to just two points inside two minutes of the fourth term before the Lions turned the tide.

McFadyen’s third and Ryan’s second helped regain scoreboard control, the Cats booted one of their own before Gallop’s third and fourth major’s along with Mckenna’s second blew the game open.

McInerney added the icing on the cake after the final siren in an emphatic away win helping the Lions jump back inside the top four with eight wins and three losses heading into the bye.

The Lions will take the week off in Round 14 before returning to Brighton Homes Arena to tackle ladder leaders Southport.
