The Brisbane Lions VFL have defeated the Footscray Bulldogs in wet conditions at the Moreton Bay Sports Complex, 98-73.

Backing up the Club’s emphatic win against the Western Bulldog at the Gabba last night, the Lions VFL side put together a cohesive and confident team effort to secure their fourth win in a row.

It was one-way traffic from the beginning with the Lions establishing their lead straight out of the gate.

Slotting six goals and seven behinds while restricting Footscray to just three goals one behind, the Lions headed into the first break with a solid 24-point lead.

Despite the Bulldogs best efforts to close the margin in the second, goals from Toby Triffett and Darcy Fort secured the home side a 26-point lead heading into the main break.

Goals from Ely Smith, Tom Fullarton, Harry Sharp and Henry Smith in the third saw the Lions maintain their 31-point lead, before staving off a late surge from the Doggies in the final term to take the 25-point victory.

The Lions’ range of attacking options was on show once again, with 11 players contributing at goal in the team effort.

Fort backed up his impressive performance against Collingwood last weekend with another strong outing on Friday afternoon.

Leading the side as Captain for the first time, Fort’s experience and skill were on show as he gathered 20 hitouts, five clearances and a goal.

Nakia Cockatoo put together one of his strongest games of the season so far, slotting two crucial goals and gathering 23 possessions, three marks, and two behinds in the win for the Lions.

Key defender Connor McFadyen played a critical role in the Lions’ backline, staving off repeated efforts on goal from Footscray to finish with 15 disposals and eight marks.

Dev Robertson and Mitch Robinson showcased their pressure around the contest and composure in front of goal to see the Lions on their way to victory. The pair finished with nine and six tackles respectively, while also managing to find a goal each.

Young talents Darcy Wilmot, Harry Sharp, and Blake Coleman continue to give Lions’ fans something to be excited about, showing plenty of spark in Friday’s 25-point win.

The Brisbane Lions VFL have a bye next weekend, before facing GWS at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday July 16.
