The Brisbane Lions VFL side have jumped back in the winners circle this week following a commanding 85-point win over GWS.
A six-goal opening term set up the victory as the Lions ran out 24.15 (159) to 11.8 (74) winners.
After giving up the first goal, one of three first quarter majors from Will McLachlan and one from Ty Gallop helped the Lions wrestle back momentum.
Brandon Ryan’s first was bookended by two Giants majors before a big pack mark and goal from Fergus McFadyen kick started a late quarter burst.
McLachlan booted his second and third in quick succession to help the Lions lead by 19 points at quarter-time.
Deven Robertson enjoyed a day out collecting 36 touches, eight clearances and making nine tackles in another strong performance.
Oscar McInerney made a successful return to football, winning 45 hitouts, 17 possessions and having seven clearances.
McLachlan’s fourth brought Brighton Homes Arena to life to start the second term as Conor McKenna and Darcy Craven nailed their opportunities as Ryan booted his second.
Two majors both before and after Mckenna’s second say the Giants bring the margin back to 25 points at the main break.
The Lions backline was stingy all day, Tom Doedee and Darragh Joyce both enjoyed strong outings, while Luke Beecken, Shadeau Brain and Tahj Abberley rebounded well off half back.
Another dominant quarter saw the Lions take control after half-time, as the Lions booted five majors.
Bruce Reville kicked off proceedings as McLachlan, McKenna, McFadyen and Craven followed, to open up a 56-point advantage at three quarter time.
The Lions midfield started to flex their muscles as Reville, Jimmy Tunstill and Sam Marshall collected 23, 25 and 22 disposals respectively while also all booting one goal.
An eight goal to three final term helped the Lions kick their highest score of the season so far.
Goals to McLachlan, Ryan, Curtis McCarthy, Dan Annable, Marshall, Tunstill and two to McFadyen gave the Springfield plenty to cheer about all the way to the final siren.
The Lions will travel back to Victoria next weekend for the first time in a month to take on Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.
