Brisbane Lions livewire forward Kai Lohmann booted seven goals on Saturday to see his side take care of Coburg by 117 points and remain undefeated in the VFL.
The commanding victory at Brighton Homes Arena was Brisbane’s largest margin so far this year as it flexed its muscles in front of an appreciative home crowd.
Deven Robertson opened the scoring in the first two minutes bursting out from a forward 50 stoppage and taking full advantage of his time and space.
Blake Coleman kicked the Lions second as the scoring began to flow.
Lohmann, who produced an electric performance had two majors by quarter time and was joined by Nakia Cockatoo, Jaxon Prior and Henry Smith.
The Lions kicked seven goals to one in the opening term to lead by 39 points at the quarter time.
Brisbane’s midfield got on top early and never looked back as Robertson, Rhys Mathieson, Jaspa Fletcher and Jimmy Tunstill were enormous with all having over disposals.
Robertson, who had claims to be best on ground, finished with 39 touches, 10 clearances and a goal.
While Mathieson had 35 touches, seven clearances ahead of Fletcher with 30 possessions, two goals and Tunstill 26 disposals and a goal to overpower the Coburg midfielders.
However, it was Brisbane’s Jarryd Lyons who led all comers in one of the best individual performances this year with 44 touches, 10 clearances, nine marks and a goal.
The Lions shot out of the gates in the second term kicking the first three goals thanks to Lohmann, Coleman and Noah Answerth to push the margin out to 57 points.
Both teams then traded goals with Coleman kicking this third and Cockatoo his second to round out the quarter.
A 12-goal opening half ensured the Lions would hold a 52-point lead at the main break.
Fletcher opened his account along with Smith’s second before Coburg fought back with two majors of its own.
Only to be stopped by a Lyons torpedo before a late three-goal onslaught including Lohmann's fourth and fifth and Fletcher’s second pushed the margin to 76 points at the final change.
Wylie Buzza was moved forward in the last quarter with immediate success booting his first major as the Lions poured on another six-goal term.
Smith kicked his third, Prior his second as well as Tunstill’s first before two late goals to Lohmann rounded out a resounding win for the Lions.
James Madden was also impressive with 25 touches and provided plenty of the run of half-back and used the ball with great pose when rebounding.
The victory pushed the Lions to the top of the VFL ladder after nine rounds and a game clear of the Gold Coast Suns who sit in second.
Prior was another standout with two goals, 23 disposals and nine marks along with fellow defender Harry Arnold who had 20 touches and 12 marks to control the defensive 50.
Darcy Gardiner continued his return from injury with another solid outing collecting 22 possessions and 10 marks.
The Lions back six kept Coburg to just 38 points from 27 forward 50 entries and is second week in a row where they have kept the opposition to under 50 points.
